RESPON MAHASISWA UNIVERSITAS ANDALAS TERKAIT BAHASA GAUL DI RUANG PUBLIK DAN PENGARUHNYA TERHADAP IDENTITAS BUDAYA LOKAL MELALUI PERSPEKTIF BAHASA INDONESIA DAN PANCASILA

Abstract

This study aims to see the response of Andalas University students regarding slang in public spaces and its influence on local cultural identity through the perspective of Indonesian and Pancasila. Slang which is increasingly popular among young people today makes communication easier. Slang is not only a means of communication, but also a symbol of identity and social status that can influence the way people interact and understand each other. However, slang can also pose challenges to the preservation of local culture. In this context, the study examines how Andalas University students use slang in interacting with the official language and norms that exist in Pancasila as the foundation of the Indonesian state. This study uses a mix method, namely qualitative and quantitative methods. This method is used because in this journal there is data in the form of quantitative data and is accompanied by analysis which is qualitative data. The study found that the use of slang can create a new space for expression and can facilitate social interaction, but it can also erode local culture and Pancasila values that exist in society with the wrong use of Indonesian. This study shows that there needs to be self-awareness among Andalas University to maintain a balance in communication between the use of slang and the use of Indonesian as a local cultural identity within the framework of Pancasila so that it is not forgotten.
