PERAN GENERASI MUDA DALAM PERKEMBANGAN POLITIK DI INDONESIA
Keywords:
Youth, politics, participation, digital divide, structural barriers.Abstract
The younger generation has a strategic role in building the future of Indonesian politics, especially as agents of change and leadership regeneration. However, the political participation of the younger generation still faces various challenges. The low level of their political participation is caused by apathy, lack of political education, the dominance of digital culture that is often not followed by real action, and a focus on non-political issues. In addition, the capacity and readiness of the younger generation to be actively involved in politics are also obstacles, influenced by minimal practical experience, low political literacy, and barriers to political culture that often prioritize patronage. The digital divide is another significant obstacle, where unequal access to technology and the internet prevents certain groups from participating in digital political discourse. Moreover, structural barriers in the political system, such as non-inclusive institutional design, restrictive election rules, and rigid political culture, narrow the space for the younger generation to contribute. As a result, leadership regeneration is hampered, the representation of young groups in public policy is minimal, and political polarization is increasing. Efforts to increase the role of the younger generation in Indonesian politics require systemic reform, increased political literacy, strengthened digital infrastructure, and openness of political structures to inclusivity. By addressing these challenges, the younger generation can be empowered as key actors in building a more democratic and representative political system in Indonesia.
