SEJARAH PERTUMBUHAN DAN PERKEMBANGAN HADITS

Abstract

Hadith is the second source of Islamic teachings after the Qur'an, which has an important role in explaining and completing sharia law. This article discusses the history of the growth and development of hadith, starting from the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW to the era of codification in the Abbasid Dynasty. During the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the dissemination of hadith was carried out orally, with strict memorization by the companions. The era of the Khulafaur Rasyidin and the generation of tabi'in marked the expansion of the dissemination of hadith, although challenges such as forgery began to emerge. An important step was taken during the Umayyad Dynasty with the initiation of the collection of hadith in writing by Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, which then reached its peak during the Abbasid Dynasty through scientific codification by great scholars such as Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim. The development of hadith science created a special discipline, including the method of criticizing sanad and matan, and the classification of hadith. This study also highlights challenges such as forgery of hadith and the importance of scholars' efforts in maintaining the authenticity of the narration. The tradition of hadith science continues to develop in various centers of Islamic study until the modern era. Research on hadith not only preserves the heritage of Islamic knowledge, but also strengthens the relevance of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW for Muslims throughout time.
