The principles of Islamic jurisprudence are universal principles in Islam that serve as guidelines in dealing with various conditions, including emergencies or dangerous situations. One of the relevant basic principles is "Adh-dhararu yuzâl" which then gave birth to a number of branch principles such as "Adh-Dharūrātu Tubīḥu al-Maḥẓūrāt" (Emergency conditions permit forbidden things), and "Mā Ubiḥa liḍ-Ḍarūrah Yuqaddaru Biqadarihā" (What is permitted due to emergency is limited according to the degree of emergency). This article aims to examine the principles of Islamic jurisprudence related to dangerous conditions, including their legal sources from the Qur'an, hadith, ijma', and qiyas. This study also examines the application of one of the branch principles in the contemporary context through a case study of the use of vaccines containing haram elements during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research results show that these principles have a strong sharia basis and are applicable in addressing modern issues while maintaining the maqasid al-shari'ah (objectives of sharia), particularly the aspect of hifz al-nafs (protecting the soul).
