Phonology as a branch of linguistics that studies the sound system of language has an important role in foreign language learning. This article discusses how understanding phonology can improve pronunciation, listening, and speech production skills in foreign languages. The literature review method is used to analyze relevant phonological theories and their implications in the learning context. The results show that the integration of phonological aspects in foreign language teaching can accelerate the achievement of oral competence and help avoid articulation errors caused by negative transfer from the mother tongue.
